Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai defends 'Angry Lions' atop new Parliament building

UDUPI: Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday defended the national emblem cast atop the new Parliament building saying it is but natural for opposition to find fault with anything the ruling party does.

"They are looking at it from a political angle and not in the nation's interest," he argued.

He said that the emblem was prevalent during the era of King Ashoka at Sarnath.

The opposition targeted the emblem claiming the original lions of the Ashokan Pillar look sober and peace-loving while those in the cast are aggressive, to which Bommai said: "It’s all in the eye of the beholder. The way they (opposition) look at things and how we do, is totally different. We have an active PM and it symbolises his image and thinking. The opposition has always believed and trusted in a lethargic lion, unlike us."
