Karnataka: After woman kills self, kin allege dowry harassment in Mysuru

MYSURU: A woman committed suicide allegedly due to dowry harassment at Kittur village under the Bettdapura police limits on Friday.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Shwetha, who was married to Basavaraj, a resident of Kittur village. Shwetha married Basavaraj three years ago. The couple has a 15-month-old baby, informed the police.

Her relatives and parents held a protest on Saturday in front of her husband’s residence without allowing the body to be cremated, demanding immediate arrest of her husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law for dowry harassment. Police registered an FIR in connection with the incident.

She committed suicide by consuming pesticide on Friday, the cops said.

On Saturday, her family members, relatives, and parents rushed to the village and held a protest demanding action against the accused. The police and villagers had a tough time convincing them.
