France striker Karim Benzema has revealed that "reason" told him to withdraw from his country's World Cup squad on the eve of the tournament following a gutting injury blow.
The Real Madrid frontman was forced out of a training session on Saturday evening having only joined his teammates for the first time in a full session having previously been nursing a couple of issues. His participation did not last long at all though as he was forced to step out.
Having undergone further testing in Qatar after the session, the French national side confirmed that the Ballon d'Or holder was forced to make the decision to step out of the squad.
