Karaoke singing grandad goes viral after brilliant cover of Tinie Tempah hit 'Pass Out' in Greater Manchester pub

A Ramsbottom grandad has taken social media by storm with an energetic karaoke performance.

One video of Alec Bracegirdle performing 2010 Tinie Tempah hip hop smash 'Pass Out', at the Britannia Inn, in Farnworth, has been viewed more than 22,000 times on Facebook, since it was posted two weeks ago. The 69-year-old raps the entire track word perfectly and even throws in some dance moves for good measure, to the delight of punters in the pub.

He told the Manchester Evening News that the song is one of several he performs in pubs around Greater Manchester, along with the likes of 'Can't Hold Us' by Macklemore and 'Gangnam Style' by PSY. "I do the same four or five songs because I know what people like," he said.

"I try to learn new ones but I had a couple of strokes a few years ago and my short term memory's shot. I used to do 70s and 80s songs but I never got any applause.

Ramsbottom grandad Alec Bracegirdle has gone viral after his brilliant cover of Tinie Tempah's Pass Out on karaoke (The Britannia Pub)

"My son said it was a bit boring because I was just stood there looking at the words, but I said if I learned Pass Out, he had to come and watch me in the pub. I learned it for about a fortnight and went to the pub, he came and watched me and his eyes popped out of his head. 'That was absolutely fantastic', he told me."

Alec said that a number of videos of him performing have been shared on social media over the years but that none have blown up in the same way as 'Pass Out'. Describing the response to it as 'weird', he added: "I just like going to karaokes and open mics a couple of times a week, it's the only time I really go out. I try to go to different places because if you go to the same place all the time, they're going to get fed up of you.

"We'd been taken our grandson back to Worsley and were on our way back so I thought we'd call into that one. It was the first time we'd been in there and I didn't know they'd videoed me. I was at home two days ago, scrolling through Facebook and it popped up with 17,000 views on it and now it's gone to 22,000.

"It's weird. I often get one or two thousand but that's the most I've ever had."
