Kanye West has returned to Instagram following a ban over hate speech - with the announcement that he is redesigning McDonald's packaging.
The US rap star, who has now legally changed his name to Ye, was suspended from the social media platform for 24 hours back in March for comments targeted at his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her boyfriend Pete Davidson. But now he's back with a curious new venture, working with the fast food giant.
West said he had partnered with Muji industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa to "reimagine" the chain's food packaging. He posted an image of a sleek box emblazoned with the classic McDonald's logo, alongside the caption: "Ye teams up with legendary Muji industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa to reimagine McDonald’s packaging."
In a Stories post, he added: "Next week it's the fries," a reference to his 2005 track Gold Digger in which he rapped: "This week he moppin' floors, next week it's the fries."
McDonald's has yet to comment on the quirky collaboration.
West received a 24-hour ban from Instagram in March after posting that he was "really concerned" Davidson would get Kardashian "hooked on drugs" and demanded the comedian "apologize to your family for being in your family". He was also condemned for using racial slurs in a post aimed at The Daily Show host Trevor Noah, who had referenced the former couple's relationship in the satirical show.
A spokesman for the platform's parent company Meta told TMZ that the rapper's posts violated their policies on hate speech, harassment and bullying.
