A Kansas City woman found something alarming in her Chili’s salad, according to a post she shared on TikTok, and it left commenters exclaiming, “AND ITS ALIVVVEEE.”
In the short clip, viewed about 2 million times, the TikTok creator, Hey it’s Josie
(@josiecaroline21), is seen digging through her Caesar Salad with a fork, shielding the activity with a Chili’s napkin. She finally retrieves what she’s after from the lettuce and dressing, and as a voice in the footage says, “That is a grasshopper.” The footage then shows the poor creature resting on her fork, as it begins to move.
The post cuts off as her dining companion seems to tell a server who has checked in, “Ok, there’s a grasshopper …” but the server’s response or what happens next is not revealed. The caption reads, “Alexa, play ‘I Am Not Okay’ by JellyRoll.”

Hi Joise, we take food safety very seriously and would like to investigate further. Would you be able to send us a PM with your contact information (full name, phone number and email address) as well as the date and location of your visit? Thank you!”

Comments on TikTok post reflected how alarming the situation must have been, including, “AINT NO WAY
as a waitress I would 100% comp your meal and be so embarrassed that happened holy shhhhhh.”
Another said, “You really need to be specific when you order. Did you ask for no grasshopper??”
From grasshoppers to feathers
It’s unclear how Chili’s resolved the Kansas City diner’s situation, but it’s the second similar viral story in recent weeks. Another complaint involved a woman who said she discovered a feather inside a Nature Valley granola bar, prompting a response from the snack maker after she shared the video online.
In that TikTok, the creator unwraps the bar and pulls what appears to be a feather-like object from the oats, visibly shocked as she shows it to the camera. The bizarre discovery had viewers joking that the bar had become “all natural” in the worst possible way.
After the clip spread across social media, Nature Valley responded publicly in the comments, apologizing for the experience and asking the woman to contact the company directly so it could investigate the incident further.
The brand said it takes product quality seriously and wanted additional information, including packaging details and where the item was purchased, to review what may have happened during manufacturing.
The feather incident joined a growing list of food-related viral TikToks in which diners and shoppers document unsettling discoveries in meals and packaged snacks, often leading brands to issue public statements or launch internal reviews. While such contamination complaints remain rare, social media has amplified consumer complaints that once may have stayed private.
