Investigators have dismissed speculation of domestic terrorism following the tragic shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl celebration on Wednesday. They are also commending the brave actions of some spectators who attempted to intervene and prevent further harm.

During the chaotic incident, it was not just the police who responded to the gunfire, but also Chiefs fans who had gathered to celebrate the team's victory. According to investigators, these courageous bystanders not only ran towards the shots but also physically stopped a police car that they believed might be involved in the mass shooting.

Two of these selfless attendees, Trey and Casey Filter, shared their account of the events. Casey recounted hearing someone yell and noticing a flash. Acting swiftly, he tackled the individual responsible, who fell near him. Recognizing the danger, Casey quickly moved away from the scene.

Authorities have determined that the shooting was not an act of terrorism or extremism, but rather a dispute between multiple individuals that escalated into gunfire. Regrettably, the incident claimed the life of a local DJ and mother of two, Lisa Lopez Galvan. Over 20 others were injured, including nine children who sustained gunshot wounds. Thankfully, all the children are expected to recover from their injuries.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas acknowledged the city's ongoing struggle with gun violence. With 2023 marking a record year for homicides, approximately 90% involving firearms, Mayor Lucas emphasized the need for effective solutions. While extensive security measures were implemented for the Super Bowl celebration, he acknowledged that more must be done to ensure the safety of residents.

Although police have not released the names of any suspects, authorities have detained two juveniles for questioning. They have assured the public that anyone found responsible for the mass shooting will be held accountable for their actions.

The tragic event in Kansas City has highlighted the persistent challenge of gun violence in the community and beyond. As investigations continue, the focus remains on seeking justice for the victims and implementing measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Mayor Lucas expressed his deep regret over the failure to adequately safeguard the public, vowing to learn from this experience and make necessary improvements to ensure the safety of the community.
