The Chiefs addressed their immediate need for an interior defensive lineman, and they did so by bringing back a familiar face.
Defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi has re-signed with the Chiefs, his agency, SportsTrust Advisors, announced Sunday afternoon on Twitter. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 6-foot-1, 317-pound Nnadi, who turns 26 on May 9, originally joined the Chiefs in 2018 as a third-round pick out of Florida State. He's become a dependable contributor.
Over the past four seasons in a Chiefs uniform, Nnadi has appeared in 64 games with 52 starts, totaling 168 tackles, four sacks, seven quarterback hits, an interception and a forced fumble.
Nnadi's return bolsters the defensive line, especially with Jarran Reed remaining a free agent. Nnadi started 10 games and played 450 defensive snaps last season as a rotational piece alongside Reed or Chris Jones, who moved back inside midway through the season after starting off the 2021 campaign at left defensive end.
Since the start of free agency, the Chiefs have brought back four players from last year's roster: Nnadi, quarterback Chad Henne, fullback Michael Burton and offensive lineman Andrew Wylie.
Also on Sunday, the Chiefs signed veteran offensive lineman Geron Christian to a one-year deal, a source familiar with the situation confirmed Sunday with The Star. Christian, who can play both tackle positions, joins the Chiefs after spending the 2021 season with the Houston Texans.
