Alastair Clarkson has made his first move as North Melbourne coach with the experienced Todd Viney becoming the Kangaroos' football manager.
Viney will replace Dan McPherson, who is one of three departures from Arden St along with assistant coaches Heath Younie and Anthony Rocca.
A former Melbourne star, Viney has held off-field roles with Hawthorn, Adelaide and the Demons.
Viney acted as caretaker Demons coach in 2011 when the late Dean Bailey was sacked with five games remaining.
The 56-year-old's appointment is just the start of Clarkson's overhaul of North's football department after the Kangaroos last Friday signed the four-time premiership coach.
Clarkson and Viney played together at Melbourne in the late-1990s.
"Todd is a widely respected figure of the game with great football nous, and he will be a huge asset to our club," North Melbourne chief executive Ben Armafio said.
"Todd's vast experience in a range of football roles has given him an understanding of all aspects of the game. We look forward to him leading our football program and working alongside Alastair."
Viney will begin in the role next Monday on a part-time basis before going full-time on November 1 when Clarkson officially starts.
North collected their second-straight wooden spoon this year after going 2-20 and sacking David Noble as coach in July.
But Clarkson's appointment has provided a massive boost to the downtrodden Kangaroos supporter base.
