North Melbourne captain Jack Ziebell expects to be consulted as the Kangaroos search for their fourth AFL coach since 2019.
The struggling Kangaroos are coming off a mammoth week after parting ways with coach David Noble, before upsetting Richmond on Saturday to snap their 14-game losing streak.
Former player Leigh Adams has a perfect record as caretaker coach after the extraordinary four-point victory over the Tigers.
But North are this week expected to finalise the process to select Noble's full-time successor, with an experienced coach likely to be prioritised.
Ziebell is open to giving any feedback to those choosing the next coach at Arden St.
"I'm sure the club is well in the process of developing a committee for the next decision, no doubt it's a really important one for our footy club," Ziebell told SEN.
"If they think that we as players in the leadership group, especially as captain, can add any advice or contributions they'll definitely ask and I've got no doubt they'll probably do that.
"In terms of the next coach, I'll leave that to the board and the committee they decide on to pick the right person for the club and back them in."
Former St Kilda and Fremantle coach Ross Lyon has said "you always take the call" when asked about the vacant North position.
Lyon, who has coached in four AFL grand finals, has been in the media since his sacking as Dockers boss at the end of 2019.
The 55-year-old was an early frontrunner to become Carlton's coach last year, but he opted not to go through an interview process as the Blues ultimately decided on Michael Voss to take over from David Teague.
Alastair Clarkson will be North's No.1 target but the four-time Hawthorn premiership coach has already met with GWS about becoming the Giants' third full-time coach.
Clarkson has been overseas, even attending the British Open golf tournament that was won by Australian Cameron Smith, but will return home this week.
Melbourne assistant coach Adem Yze is a contender for the Giants' position but could be an option at North if he misses out to Clarkson at GWS.
Veteran football administrator Geoff Walsh's review of the Kangaroos' football department remains ongoing, with North saying his feedback had nothing to do with moving Noble on.
