Kamala Harris To Campaign With Obamas In Georgia And Michigan

Former President Barack Obama speaks during a campaign rally supporting Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris, Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, at the University of Pittsburgh's Fitzger

Vice President Kamala Harris is gearing up for her first campaign appearances alongside former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama. These events are scheduled to take place in Georgia and Michigan later this month, marking Mrs. Obama's first time hitting the campaign trail for Harris.

Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, will join forces with Obama in Georgia on October 24 and with Mrs. Obama in Michigan on October 26. The specific cities for these events have not been disclosed at this time.

Former President Obama has been actively supporting Harris, recently campaigning for her in Pittsburgh and with upcoming appearances in Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Early voting in Michigan is set to begin on October 26, and Harris and Mrs. Obama will be urging supporters to cast their ballots early.

Georgia has already seen a record number of early voters, with over 310,000 people casting their votes on the first day of early voting. The Obamas, who endorsed Harris in July and spoke at the Democratic National Convention in August, are known for their ability to draw large crowds and raise significant funds for Democratic candidates.

In addition to the upcoming campaign events, Mrs. Obama is scheduled to headline a rally in Atlanta on October 29, following her appearance with Harris in Michigan. The rally, hosted by the nonpartisan civic engagement organization When We All Vote, will feature various celebrities and civic leaders.

When We All Vote, founded by Mrs. Obama in 2018, aims to engage individuals who are typically less involved in politics and elections. The organization's celebrity co-chairs include notable figures such as NBA players Stephen Curry and Chris Paul, musicians Jennifer Lopez and Janelle Monáe, and actors Tom Hanks, Selena Gomez, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Kerry Washington.

The longstanding friendship between Harris and the Obamas dates back two decades, with Harris supporting Obama during his U.S. Senate campaign in 2000 and his presidential bid in 2008. Their collaboration continues to strengthen as they work together to mobilize voters and support Democratic candidates.
