Kamal Nath urges party workers to reach out to each voter

BHOPAL: State Congress president Kamal Nath on Friday called a meeting of the party’s panchayat cell to discuss the strategy for the upcoming local body polls in the state. In a pep talk to panchayat cell members, former chief minister Nath said, “No one will go and tell you what to do. This is a shortcoming of Congress workers. BJP grassroots workers do not have to be told by their leaders to move around and work for the party, but Congress workers wait for party leaders’ instructions.”

Addressing the party panchayat cell meeting,Nath said, “You are the foundation of the Congress and connected to the grassroots. Politics has undergone tremendous change in the past 10 to 15 years. Previously, we could claim that a particular village is a Congress hamlet. Today, we have to go house to house to see if all family members will vote for our party.” He said that grassroots workers will have to reach every voter and that task cannot be done by leaders. “The responsibility of getting in touch with every voter has to be carried by the worker on the field. If you bear that responsibility then Congress can be successful in the assembly elections next year. The panchayat elections will send a clear message to the people,” he said.

Nath said that the Congress’ contest is not against the BJP but against its organization. “ They say the Congress is finished. In our country, every village still has a place of worship, flowering bushes and a Congress worker,” he said. Nath said that BJP has been ruling the state for 18 years.
