Kalvin Phillips told to stay at Leeds United amid Manchester City 'interest'

Former Celtic and Aston Villa forward Alan McInally has claimed that Kalvin Phillips would be better off staying at Leeds United than moving to Manchester City. Phillips is reportedly top of Pep Guardiola’s wishlist as they look to replace Fernandinho, who has returned to his native Brazil after nine years at the club.

The 26-year-old has established himself as one of Leeds’ key players in recent seasons, which has also enabled him to become a regular on the international stage for England. But Phillips endured an injury hit campaign last time out, missing four months of the season due to a torn hamstring.

That has not stopped City from showing their interest in Phillips, though, who has two years left to run on his current deal at Elland Road. Speaking to Football Accumulators on 'The Group Chat' podcast, via Manchester Evening News, McInally believes that Rodri would remain first choice even if he was signed, claiming that regular football at Leeds would be better for his England chances.
