Kalvin Phillips given pre-match reminder and other Man City moments missed vs Bristol City

Manchester City progressed comfortably to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup thanks to a 3-0 victory over Bristol City. The Blues had the advantage on seven minutes when neat build-up play by Riyad Mahrez allowed Kevin De Bruyne to flash a cross, across the face of the goal for Phil Foden to tap home.

Bristol City battled valiantly in the hour that followed but went 2-0 down on 74 minutes. An exquisite ball by De Bruyne found Nathan Ake, he eventually worked it back to Julian Alvarez who picked out Foden to fire home the second.

The match was over as a contest but De Bruyne added gloss to the scoreline when he fired home from outside the area to secure the victory.

With the Blues now awaiting their next opponents in the last eight, MEN Sport picked out three moments which you may have missed.

Phillips' pre-match reminder

The former Leeds United man was handed a rare start at Ashton Gate and did not disappoint Pep Guardiola. With a bit of luck, Kalvin Phillips would have given City the lead with the first effort of the game but his strike hit the woodwork.

Guardiola has spoken about Phillips understanding the game that City are trying to play and this point was further pressed home by Enzo Maresca before kick-off. While taking part in a passing drill, Maresca was frequently reminding the England international to play the ball short.

This advice seemed to be heeded during the 90 minutes that unfolded in Bristol.

Pearson and Guardiola's long debrief

It is not often that two managers have a lengthy conversation at the end of the game pitchside without tensions flaring. However, that is exactly what happened between Nigel Pearson and Pep Guardiola at the full-time whistle.

The good-natured conversation appeared to be led by Pearson while Guardiola listened patiently. Both men were complimentary about the other before the game and that opinion appears not to have changed after it.

Ashton Gate pays tribute to John Motson

Nearly a week on from the legendary commentator's passing, Bristol City and Manchester City supporters joined forces to pay tribute to Motty. Both sets of supporters joined in with a minute's applause for the reporter who died aged 77.

He was a regular at the Etihad Stadium in a professional and leisure capacity. In a BBC documentary aired before Motson's death, Guardiola was seen praising the broadcaster who was waxing lyrical about City's style of play.
