John Stones and Kyle Walker helped to convince Kalvin Phillips to join Manchester City while they were away together on England duty.
Phillips has arrived from Leeds in a £42m deal after lengthy interest from sporting director Txiki Begiristain as he planned for the Blues to replace Fernandinho. The 26-year-old takes the No.4 shirt previously worn by Vincent Kompany and is looking forward to taking his game to the next level.
City were not the only club interested in Phillips, who has established himself in the Premier League and on the international stage in the last few years. However, a conversation with two City defender s last month helped Phillips to know he wanted to go to the Etihad - not least because of the intrigue of how different it is to other clubs.
