More than 1,000 registered nurses at Kaiser Permanente facilities in California are owed back wages after an arbitrator ruled that the health system must repay pay lost after a payroll system change it made in early 2021, according to the California Nurses Association (CNA). The union announced the decision on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026.
The union estimates the total owed could reach tens of millions of dollars. That figure comes from the union alone. Kaiser has not released its own estimate, and the arbitrator's written decision has not been made public, so the exact amount each nurse will receive and the repayment timeline remain unknown.
