Kaiser Chiefs' Ricky Wilson admits he has 'stolen some poor guy's career' after Harry Potter film role mix-up

Kaiser Chiefs frontman has a bizarre connection to the Harry Potter film franchise.

Ricky, 44, and his bandmates recently welcomed us to their Old Chapel Studios base, in Holbeck, Leeds. The Kaisers are known for a long list of indie hits such as Ruby and I Predict a Riot.

Ricky has also tried his hand at presenting and has even appeared on the big screen in St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold. Although, some confusion exists about the star’s about Ricky’s connection to the Harry Potter film series.

So, on movie bible IMDB, Ricky Wilson is listed as playing Dirk Cresswell in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 - released in 2010. Dirk was a muggle-born wizard who is killed in the film series as part of Lord Voldermort’s reign of terror.

In fact, Ricky stresses he didn’t play the bit-part in the film. As reported by What to Watch, Ricky said: "I'm credited as playing the part of Dirk Cresswell. But that's not me.

“That's another guy who actually had a part. But then at some point, someone said, 'Oh, that's Ricky Wilson'. Even the Lego mini figure says it's me. It's not me. I was just an extra and I've totally stolen some poor guy's career. Even now, if I'm walking out of a gig or something and someone shows me a picture of the actor that played that part, I'll sign it. But it's not me!"

In fact, Ricky merely plays an extra in a shot during Harry, Ron and Hermione's break in at the Ministry of Magic. Ricky can be seen leaning against a wall in a purple suit as the trio exit a lift.

It was intended Ricky would have a bigger role in the film series but that never materialised. Ricky was supposed to be part of an all-star band who played at the wedding of Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour in the opening stages of the film.

"I got a call a long time before the film came out," said Ricky. "There was a wedding in the film and they wanted a band to play at the ceremony. They wanted me and Alison from Goldfrapp to be the singers, with Matt Bellamy from Muse on guitar.

"I thought 'This is brilliant!' and I was so excited, but a few months later another call came and they'd decided they weren't going to do that, they were going to do CGI instruments floating around instead. I was gutted so I asked if there was any chance I could just go and be in the film anyway.”

This is how Ricky ended up as an extra with the additional element of the Dirk Cresswell confusion. Ricky said during his days on set he’d lunch with the film’s stars - including Harry Potter himself Daniel Radcliffe.

Later this year, Ricky and his Kaiser Chiefs bandmates will be playing a huge homecoming show at Leeds First Direct Arena. The show is happening on Saturday, November 12.
