CS2 Community Pushback
The CS2 community pushed back on the event lineup, pointing to the near-total absence of CS2 streamer or profesionals. Retired North American pro, Ryan “Freakazoid” Abadir, said, “next time say famous streamers, not cs2 players foo”, pointing to the issue. Others also echoed similar sentiments.
However, that view must be caveated in a few ways. While CS streamers have absolutely amassed incredible viewership, most have not breached the wider internet zeitgeist yet. For fans within the community, retired players justifiably command incredible respect and adoration, but the same can not be said for the general audience. In fact ohnePixel’s inclusion points to a similar conclusion. He is by far the largest streamer in the CS2 space, and has a personality that is entertaining to thousands across the world.
CS2 today enjoys great consistent viewership, in a time where other major Esports are on the back foot. But it would not do the community much harm to welcome streamers with open arms. Afterall, Jynxzi’s impact on the recent Rocket League Boston Major can not be overstated. The streamer has almost singlehandedly revived the interest in the RLCS.
And even if you think Counter-Strike is better than the games these streamers usually play, wouldn’t such a tournament shine a brighter light on CS anyways?
The tournament streams live on Twitch on Sunday, March 15, with the draft itself expected to be part of the broadcast.
