Justin Turner Tweets Update After Scary Spring-Training Injury

Red Sox infielder Justin Turner was hit with a pitch to the face during a spring training game on Monday, leading to a scary scene and a trip to the hospital. Just a day later, Turner gave a positive update on his condition.

“Thanks to everyone for all the messages and prayers!” he said in a tweet. “I’m feeling very fortunate to come out of yesterday with no breaks & all my chiclets in tact [sic]. The Red Sox medical staff and Lee Health have been absolutely amazing & I’m going to be back out on the field as soon as possible.”

The injury looked brutal when Tigers pitcher Matt Manning hit Turner in his first at-bat. Turner was on the ground for some time with medical staff. His wife Kourtney later shared on Twitter that her husband had to get 16 stitches as a result. She added that the two were home and Turner was dealing with a lot of swelling.

The 38-year-old spent the last nine seasons with the Dodgers where he was elected to two All Star Games and won the 2020 World Series. He would go on to sign with Boston on a two-year, $21.7 million deal during this past offseason.
