The Red Sox were set to host the Mets on Friday night in the first tilt of a three-game weekend set at Fenway Park. However, torrential downpours spoiled the tilt in the bottom of the 4th inning, as play was suspended due to the poor weather.
The Mets were leading the contest 4–3, and play will resume on Saturday afternoon at Fenway as part of a day-night doubleheader.
To give an idea of how bad the rain was on Friday night, Red Sox designated hitter Justin Turner shared a video of the tunnel leading from the locker room to the dugout. With what appeared to be trash bags over his uniform pants, Turner walked through the flooded tunnel and posted the video to Twitter.
The caption was fitting. “I thought we could have played through it,” Turner tweeted.

There’s no rain in the forecast for Saturday, but it will be hot and humid at Fenway Park. The games will be played, and there will be no more wild flooding like the scenes on Friday night at the ballpark.
