Protestors from the environmental group Just Stop Oil have blocked traffic on a major road heading out of the city centre. Regent Road has been blocked outbound from Manchester City Centre to Salford due to a large group of protestors.
This is causing major delays to motorists with people urged to find an alternative route. Busses are also being heavily delayed by the action.
Pictures and videos shared on social media show a large group of protestors holding Just Stop Oil banners walking slowly along Regent Road, blocking all traffic behind it. Police are in attendance.

Traffic is queuing back onto the Mancunian Way as far as the junction with Princess Road. Just Stop Oil has become infamous over recent years for it's direct action protests in which they block major roads and have also thrown paint over buildings and artwork.
On their website they describe themselves as: "Just Stop Oil is a coalition of groups working together to ensure that the government commits to ending all new licenses and consents for the exploration, development and production of fossil fuels in the UK. We demand that the UK government makes a statement that it will immediately halt all future licensing and consents for the exploration, development and production of fossil fuels in the UK."
A GoNorthWest bus post said: "Due to a protest on Regent Road our #GNW33 toward Eccles is diverting Water Street RIGHT Trinity way LEFT Hampson St AHEAD Middlewood Street AHEAD Liverpool Street LEFT Albion way 3rd EXIT at the M602 roundabout on to Eccles New Road. Inbound is not affected."
Transport for Greater Manchester said: "A57 Regent Road OUTBOUND. Due to a police incident, road is currently blocked. Delays of up to 15 mins clockwise on the Inner Ring Road. Seek an alternative route."
A GMP spokesman said: "Greater Manchester Police are aware of an ongoing protest in the Castlefield area of the city centre. Officers are in attendance to maintain safety whilst facilitating the right to peaceful protest."
