Jury still deliberating on verdict for Bruce Lehrmann, on trial for allegedly raping Brittany Higgins

After more than five full days of deliberations, the 12 jurors in the rape trial of Bruce Lehrmann will return to court tomorrow to continue to try to reach a verdict.

Mr Lehrmann is accused of raping a former colleague, ex-Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins, in an office at Parliament House in 2019.

He has pleaded not guilty and says no sexual activity occurred between the pair.

When sending the jury home for the day, ACT Supreme Court Chief Justice Lucy McCallum reminded the jurors that she appreciated their time.

"I would wish to be able to help you in any way I can," she said.

"You are all equals in the jury room."

The jury retired a week ago after a trial that lasted 12 days and saw 29 witnesses take the stand to give evidence.

Yesterday, Chief Justice McCallum sent the 12 jurors back to deliberate further after they told the court they were unable to agree on a verdict.

ACT law requires a unanimous jury verdict for a finding of guilty or not guilty.
