Jury retires in trial of Labour councillor over ‘throat-cutting’ comments

The jury in the trial of a Labour councillor accused of calling for far-right protesters’ throats to be slit during a speech at an anti-racism protest has retired to consider its verdicts.

In the wake of rioting after the Southport murders last summer, Ricky Jones, 58, described far-right activists as “disgusting Nazi fascists”, his trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.
