Liverpool are reportedly targeting an improved bid for Torino defender Perr Schuurs.
The 23-year-old centre-back began his career by rising through the ranks at Ajax, where he made 95 appearances, before sealing a move to Serie A last summer. Schuurs was impressive throughout his debut campaign and is claimed to be a target for the Reds, who have been linked with improving their defensive options.
Schurrs is believed to have had a trial with Liverpool, aged 17, but it was during the club’s injury crisis in 2020 that the then-Ajax centre-back was first linked with a big-money move to Anfield.
“It’s my first season as a basic player at Ajax,” he said three years ago, shutting down speculation after facing Liverpool. “I want to play here for a few more seasons and win prizes. I’m not really working on that yet.”

Italian outlet Tutto Sport has claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s side have reignited apparent interest in Schuurs and have already seen a €30m (£25m) offer rejected. However, the Daily Express claims that Klopp has instructed the club to sign Schuurs at “any cost” and are preparing an improved offer that would be nearer to Torino’s €40m (£34m) valuation.
Schuur’s performances in Italy are also said to have earned admiration from reigning champions Napoli, who are looking for a centre-back, following Kim min-Jae’s move to Bayern Munich. Tutto Sport reports that Napoli have seen an opening offer of £21m knocked back by Torino, who are said to be “awaiting new proposals”.
It is not the first time this summer that Liverpool have been linked with bringing in a new centre-half.
Football.london has claimed that the club have made enquiries for Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, though, new boss Mauricio Pochettino’s reported willingness to work with the academy graduate makes a move to Liverpool appear unlikely.
