Jurgen Klopp sent touching letter to terminally ill Irish Liverpool fan

Jurgen Klopp sent a touching letter to an Irish Liverpool fan who was terminally ill last year.

The Premier League and Champions League-winning manager took time out of his busy schedule to send a heartfelt letter by post to Declan Fitzpatrick, who died aged 61 last October.

The story was revealed by Declan's brother Dr. Chris Fitzpatrick, who appeared on the Ryan Tubridy Show on RTE Radio One this morning.

"Declan was a passionate Liverpool supporter," said Chris.

"He [Declan] was absolutely perfectly well up until he collapsed at work around this time last year.

"He was transferred to hospital where within 24 hours he was diagnosed with metastatic cancer with brain secondaries."

Due to covid restrictions, Declan's family could only pay window visits and weren't able to spend anytime with Declan indoors.

During the interview, Chris paid tribute to the "marvelous" care paid to Declan by his wife Cepta during this extremely challenging time.

"Out of the blue, he receives a letter in the post from Jurgen Klopp," he told Tubridy.

"This was a personal letter written to him, and he was delighted to get that.

"It was like a poem, because every word was perfect. And it finished with the line 'You'll never walk alone.'

"It was like a ray of sunshine had come into his life. It was so powerfully meaningful to him and brought him and all of the family such joy.

A touch of class from Klopp that clearly meant so much to Chris and his entire family.
