Jurgen Klopp sends James Milner message and responds to Alexis Mac Allister Liverpool transfer question

Jurgen Klopp has sidestepped questions about James Milner's future and Liverpool's reported interest in Alexis Mac Allister.

The ECHO understands that the Reds' long-serving vice-captain is set to leave the club at the end of his contract this summer, and is on the verge of joining Brighton & Hove Albion. Meanwhile, Seagulls midfielder Mac Allister could move the other way and is believed to be one of Liverpool's first-choice transfer targets ahead of revamping their midfield this summer.

Klopp was asked about about both players at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Brentford. And he would hint that Milner is set to move on, without wanting to confirm the midfielder's decision when praising his vice-captain.

"No (nothing to say). Milly I can say, over the years and months that I had really good conversations with him," he said. "He knows how highly I value him. He's an incredible part of this team and I would have loved to have work together with him even longer.

"What exactly the outcome will be of his decision, I think Milly will say that at one point. I'm not sure if it happened already or not, I'm not really aware of that.

"Nothing else to say from me but nothing will change. I've said it a couple of times, what happened over the past seven and a half years, all the positive things, none of it would happen without James Milner."

Meanwhile, Klopp refused to comment on speculation linking Liverpool with Mac Allister.

"All others things, transfer-wise, you will be the first to be informed if something will happen," he said. "But before then, nothing really to say about it."
