Jurgen Klopp names Liverpool player he 'loves having' ahead of Real Madrid test

Jurgen Klopp is adamant Liverpool will not become carried away by their mini-revival – but admits his team are now "in a better place”.

The Reds followed Monday’s derby win over Everton with a 2-0 triumph at top-four rivals Newcastle United on Saturday evening.

It moved Liverpool to within six points of their fourth-placed opponents with a game in hand, and secured only their third away Premier League triumph of the campaign.

And asked about the win, Klopp said: “Massive, massive, massive, massive. I don’t think we are in a position where we can have a big mouth and say we are here.

“We go again. It is obvious we are in a better place than a couple of weeks ago but there are still places for improvement and we have to show consistency. Next game we have Real Madrid. A different competition and nothing to do with the game today.

“We have to recover and go for that, and after that it’s Crystal Palace. Palace is a tough place to go as well. We have to keep going. When you are in the position we are in, there is no alternative to consistency to get out of it. Performance-wise, a lot of good stuff. But there are areas we can improve.”

With Alisson Becker impressive in goal, Liverpool secured back-to-back clean sheets in the top flight for the first time since October.

And of the achievement, Klopp said: “Massive, 100%. It explains a little bit the issues we have in the games where we can’t control it better. It’s so long ago we were in a situation like that.

“It’s unfortunate that football is not like cycling. Always exactly on the same level. It’s different. The only way you can get back on track is by winning. We’ve now done it twice in a row and that feels absolutely incredible.

“Alisson? We love having him. Very helpful performance today, absolutely.”
