Jurgen Klopp reveals Liverpool transfer plan for this window and two things that could change it

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists he does not plan to venture into the transfer window unless the availability of his squad changes drastically before the end of August.

The Reds were one of the Premier League's busiest clubs during the early weeks of the summer window as they had deals for Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho and young full-back Calvin Ramsay swiftly wrapped up by the time the middle of June had come around.

However, having already completed stage one of their pre-season preparations, following their first tour of Asia since 2017, it seems that Klopp won't be dipping into the market to add additional numbers to his squad - unless there are further departures or long-term injuries to the current members of his squad.

"If nobody wants to leave, we are done," said Klopp while speaking to Sky Sports from the Reds' Austrian training base. "Or if a bad injury comes in...I don't hope so. But Liverpool fans can start focusing on other things."

Pressed on potential departures, the boss added: "Have I ever spoken in situations like this about it? You get the results - not the process!"

So far Liverpool have suffered injuries to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota during the early weeks of summer training, but while the Brazilian is expected to be fit enough for next weekend's visit to the King Power for the game against Manchester City, timescales for the muscle injuries both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jota have sustained remain to be seen.

Unforeseen injuries aside, during his tenure at Anfield Klopp has always sought to do business as early as possible because of how important the pre-season period is in his eyes, as his new recruits are given the best opportunity to adapt high demands of his regime - on and off the ball.

But even without further additions at Anfield, the Liverpool manager believes his squad will be ready to compete with the likes of Manchester City once again this season. But hasn't ruled out the Premier League heavyweights being joined in their title pursuit by the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea.

"I cannot say that anyone has made a massive mistake so far in the transfer market, I haven't sat at home and thought 'thank god they took him'," joked the German.

"It was clear beforehand that Tottenham are going in the right direction, it was clear, you could see that last year - the signings made absolute sense. [Manchester] City didn't only bring in players, they gave two to Arsenal, and one to Chelsea.

"We are in a similar situation, we just can't always go again with the same team and try to do this kind of thing - we need a bit of fresh blood, fresh legs. So City is in a similar situation to us and in the end [they] will have fantastic football players, as we have, and it's a question of who makes the most of it. Everybody has the same chance. It will be interesting for supporters, we will give it our all."

Klopp's men take on Manchester City ahead of the new season in next week's Community Shield at the King Power Stadium, before getting their Premier League season underway with a trip to Fulham on August 6.
