Jurgen Klopp reveals John Henry talks as Liverpool owner's West Ham attendance explained

Jurgen Klopp has revealed already having held talks with John Henry after the Liverpool owner attended his first Reds game in almost 12 months.

Henry was sat along side Liverpool chief executive Billy Hogan at the 2-1 Premier League at West Ham United on Wednesday evening.

The Fenway Sports Group boss hadn’t watched Klopp’s side in action since the clash with Bournemouth in the Premier League in August.

IAN DOYLE: John Henry has just seen first hand what Liverpool need this summer

Liverpool's owners are under pressure from supporters to back Klopp in the transfer market this summer with an expected extensive rebuild of the midfield, the scrutiny of which has intensified after it emerged the Reds had stepped away from their long-term pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s England international Jude Bellingham.

And of Henry’s presence in London, Klopp said: “We had talks already. We spoke last night in the hotel, we have already had a talk. I knew that he was coming.”

Henry saw Liverpool come from behind to earn a third successive victory after goals from Cody Gakpo and Joel Matip overturned an opener from West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta.

Matip had been recalled to the starting line-up in place of Ibrahima Konate, who was not part of the travelling party that journeyed to the capital.

And explaining Konate’s absence, Klopp said: “Ibou could have played, he’s not injured. But in the last two or three weeks he always had to rest two days, one day, then half a session and stuff like this.

“I thought now we had to make sure he can recover properly that he doesn’t get injured, that’s why we left him completely at home.”
