Jurgen Klopp rates Man City's chances of handing Liverpool the title on final day

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believes Manchester City will beat Aston Villa on the final day of the season to secure their fourth Premier League title in five seasons.

Pep Guardiola's side dropped points for the first time in six matches as they were held to a 2-2 draw against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon. Jarrod Bowen's brace gave the Hammers a two-goal cushion going into half-time, before Jack Grealish pulled one back and Vladimir Coufal's own-goal earned a share of the spoils.

The result leaves City four points ahead of Liverpool in the race for the top-flight title ahead of the Reds' trip to Southampton on Tuesday night. Klopp's side have played a game fewer than their rivals and will go within touching distance of City if they beat Saints.

This would make things at the top very interested indeed going into the final day. City host Villa, while Liverpool face Wolves at Anfield. Despite dropping points at West Ham, Klopp does not think they will slip again when they tackle Steven Gerrard's side this weekend.

Klopp said: "I am looking forward to the game tomorrow. I don't know the last time City dropped points two games in a row. Villa has to play midweek. They are not used to that. I don't expect City to drop points there."

Liverpool could still win the quadruple this season, having already lifted two trophies. The Reds lifted the Carabao Cup after beating Chelsea on penalties back in February, before repeating the same feat against the same opposition in the FA Cup final on the weekend.

Meanwhile, Klopp's side face Real Madrid in the Champions League final later this month. The Reds progressed past Villarreal over two legs in the semi-final, while Los Blancos overcame Manchester City.

However, the Reds still having a fighting chance of winning the Premier League if they beat Southampton. This would see the title race go down to the final day for the first time since Liverpool and City went head-to-head during the 2018/19 season.

When asked about that season, Klopp said: "When they played Brighton right? And Brighton went 1-0 up? I could hear in the stadium, they probably scored.

"I knew in that moment it was too early. If I had heard it in the 90th minute, I'd have probably celebrated.

"The only thing I felt was pride. I knew in the moment we would get another chance. It's all about timing."
