Jurgen Klopp provides Liverpool update on James Milner amid Leeds United transfer link

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the future of James Milner. The 36-year-old is out of contract with the Reds this summer and has been linked with a potentially move back to West Yorkshire.

Leeds have been rumoured to be keeping tabs on his current situation at Anfield with many fans potentially open to Milner returning to Elland Road. Having spent 8 years with the Whites from 1996-2004, Milner then left for Newcastle United despite admitting he was only doing so 'in the best interests of the club'.

With time ticking down on his deal in Merseyside, Klopp has since insisted talks are ongoing on between both club and player in a recent interview.

“I spoke recently about ‘talks’ taking place to extend his [James Milner] stay with us and I thought it might make sense to use this platform to clarify that as I’ve seen some misleading reporting around it,'' began the 54-year-old.

''The level he is at, physically, technically, and in terms of personal desire and hunger for more, means he should play on for as long as that lasts. I hope it will be here and that is what I have told those at the club who take on these tasks. It’s not fair or right to then jump to the conclusion that an offer has been made, because I don’t think that’s fair on James.''

With Milner's Liverpool side knocking Leeds for 6 during their home win recently, the Thorp Arch academy graduate touchingly waved to the away support whilst performing his warm-up.
