The 240th Merseyside derby went the way of Liverpool on Sunday as a 2-0 win over Everton took them to within a point of Manchester City at the Premier League's summit.
Substitutes Divock Origi and Luis Diaz played a huge role in steering the game the way of Jurgen Klopp's side with the former having a hand in the opening goal before they combined for the second late on.
After laying off for Mohamed Salah to cross the opening goal, Origi then put the seal on the result late on with a header for what was his sixth career goal against Everton.
It keeps the Reds right behind City in what will be a thrilling title-race run-in over the next month as the quest for a quadruple goes on at Anfield.
But, of course, you knew all of that. What you might have missed, however, were a series of largely unseen incidents on Sunday.
Rash Gordon
After being cautioned for diving in the first half inside the penalty area by referee Stuart Attwell, Everton's Anthony Gordon was incensed when he was not awarded one in the second half either.
Going down under the weight of a challenge from Joel Matip, the Blues winger was furious that a spot-kick was not given. He later took to social media to offer a couple pointed face-palm emojis alongside a video of the incident.

But rather than confining his anger to social media, Gordon continued his protestations in the post-match mixed zone.
As journalists gathered to grab a word or two with the players, Gordon marched past, deep in the conversation with an Everton coach, demanding an explanation for just why the penalty was not awarded in a tone that was a mixture of frustration and bewilderment.
"I know, I know..." was the sympathetic response of the Blues coach who no doubt had been given an earful as they made their journey across the Anfield corridor.
Robertson's joy
Andy Robertson doesn't score many Liverpool goals and his latest one to break the deadlock in the second half was just his seventh in nearly five full seasons at the club.
So he was well within his rights to not only celebrate at the time but continue them at full time, even when the ground had cleared out and the stands were empty.
As the Scot made his way back towards the dressing room following some post-match interviews and handing his match-worn shirt to a supporter sitting in the disabled section, Robertson became involved in a celebratory conversation with one Liverpool official who was standing in the press box saluting his efforts.
The smile across Robertson's face spoke volumes as he shouted over his love of scoring - even if he admitted the goals don't arrive as frequently he'd like.
"I don't get many, do I!?" he said, patting the forehead which brought about the goal. Perhaps not, but this was a big one.
Hiding in plain sight
As Jurgen Klopp made his way towards his post-match press conference, the Liverpool boss needed somewhere to leave his accompanying luggage.
The Reds manager decided to rest the suitcase sitting just outside the press conference room as he stepped up to discuss the merits of his side and the importance of Sunday's victory.
Spotting an opportunity for a gentle prank, a couple of press members opted to hide the belongings around the corner and out of sight from Klopp upon his return from the meeting with the media.
It was a gentle rib on a Liverpool boss who was understandably in a buoyant mood and he saw the funny side when he came back to eventually find his case tucked away from where he had initially left it.
"Ha ha! You guys are very funny..." he offered before walking off, suitcase in tow, with a beaming smile that can only be worn after victory on derby day.
