Jurgen Klopp has explained why he didn’t celebrate Liverpool’s 7-0 victory over Manchester United with his trademark fist pumps celebration in front of the Kop.
Braces from Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, plus a late strike from Roberto Firmino, clinched the most emphatic of victories for the Reds against their bitter rivals. The result, as well as giving their goal difference a welcome boost, saw Liverpool move up to fifth in the Premier League table as they closed the gap on the top four to just three points.
While Klopp’s fist pumps celebration has been rarely spotted this season, given the Reds’ struggles, you would perhaps expect the German to dust it off after such a memorable win. The Kop certainly expected him to, and repeatedly encouraged him to as he saluted the fans after the final whistle.

However, Klopp resisted such calls. And speaking to the BBC after the game, he explained why he decided against celebrating in such a manner, while also gently urging supporters to stop singing his song - ‘I'm so Glad (That Jurgen is a Red)’, sung to the tune of The Beatles' 'I Feel Fine' - so frequently.
“It’s not [about being] louder, it’s we have to keep going, just keep going,” Klopp explained. “I love that, but obviously I cannot do that after each game.
“I love that they ask for it, to be honest. I’m still not overly happy when they sing my song, it’s like, ‘Oh god, is there nothing else?’
“But I appreciate it, it’s just there will be a moment when we achieve what we want to achieve this year, and then we have enough time for fist pumps.”
