Jurgen Klopp has dismissed talk of Liverpool attemping to sign Kylian Mbappe, but joked he would be open to a “surprise” move from the club.
Mbappe’s future remains uncertain as PSG look to sell the Frenchman, with the Ligue 1 side insisting that they will not risk losing the 24-year-old for free next summer. The forward, who is out of contract in 12 months’ time, has made it clear he has no intention of signing a new deal.
A massive €300m move to Al-Hilal has been raised as a possibility, but Real Madrid still appear to be the front runners to land Mbappe, whether that be this window or later in the season.
The Mirror have claimed that Liverpool are in talks with PSG over a shock loan move for Mbappe, one that would ensure there is not a toxic season ahead in Paris and leave him free to secure his dream transfer to Real at the end of the campaign.
However, responding to those rumours, Klopp reiterated that the club have no plans to try and bring Mbappe to Anfield, unless those talks are being hidden even from him.
“We laugh about it,” the Liverpool boss told Sky Germany.
“I can say that I think he’s a really good player, but the financial conditions don’t suit us at all. I wouldn’t like to ruin the story now, but as far as I know, there’s nothing to it.
“But it’s possible that someone else from the club is preparing something and wants to surprise me, but that hasn’t happened in the eight years that I’ve been here. That would be the first time.”
