Sadio Mane could be about to prove Lionel Messi right when Liverpool play Man City
If Sadio Mane were to score against Man City on Sunday, he would achieve something only one other Liverpool player has ever managed to do during Jurgen Klopp’s reign as manager. Indeed, only five other Reds have even registered such a feat in the Premier League.
Namely score a goal on one’s birthday. The Senegalese becomes the latest member of Klopp’s mentality monsters to enter the 30-club this weekend as he celebrates a landmark birthday. In search of a second Premier League title in three years as Liverpool chase an unprecedented quadruple, if he could help guide the Reds to victory over the reigning champions to move top of the table, it would be the perfect present.
Yet despite once being part of an untouchable front three that Pep Guardiola feared alongside Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, Mane isn’t even certain to start at the Etihad. And that’s despite the fact Liverpool’s Brazilian number nine missed training on Friday and the Egyptian King appears fatigued and is out of form, such is the depth Klopp now boasts in attack following the arrivals of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.
