Jurgen Klopp has already dropped major hint about why Liverpool want Luis Diaz

Liverpool's interest in Luis Diaz should come as no surprise as manager Jurgen Klopp has already expressed how closely he watches the Portuguese league.

The Reds are understood to be pursuing a deal potentially worth up to £49m for Diaz as they face a race against time to get it done before Monday's transfer deadline.

The Colombia international already has 16 goals for Porto in all competitions so far this season as his side currently sit top of the Primeira Liga.

Klopp told LFC TV in May last year the Portuguese league is an 'interesting' one to watch, as he praised the innovative coaching in the competition.

"A league I love to watch is probably not the most famous league, but you always see innovations, good players, good coaches in Portugal," he said.

"It's a really interesting league to watch. They have a proper philosophy and a lot of clubs do really smart things to educate, train and coach players."

The Reds have faced faced Porto six times in the Champions League since the 2017/18 season, winning five and drawing one.

And Liverpool boss Klopp would've got a closer look at Diaz earlier in the campaign as they were drawn against Porto in the group stages of this year's competition.

While Diaz failed to make an impact against Klopp's rampant Reds, as they won both the home and away fixtures, he has impressed against Premier League opposition before.

Last season, the 25-year-old scored a sensational solo goal at the Etihad against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side.
