Jurgen Klopp confirms double injury blow for Liverpool ahead of Carabao Cup final with Chelsea

Jurgen Klopp has ruled both Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota out of Liverpool's clash with Leeds United on Wednesday.

The Reds take on Chelsea on Sunday afternoon in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley and could be without two important attackers for the showdown.

Firmino is currently suffering with a muscle issue that he picked up after last week's Champions League win over Inter Milan, while Jota also picked up a problem during the first half of the match at the San Siro.

Liverpool take on Leeds on Wednesday as they look to close the gap to Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table and Klopp has confirmed both forwards will be absent.

The Reds boss said: "No chance [either Firmino or Jota will be ready] for tomorrow. Sunday, we will see. It will be easier for me to say no now but they are pushing.

"Not on the pitch for training which is not a good sign. We will make the decision in the week."

Klopp was also pressed on what his thinking behind Sunday's team selection could be and whether he may rest some of his key players for the match with Leeds on Wednesday.

He said: "I did not think about Sunday's team. One thing I have learned is it does not work for me to have two or three games in my mind.

"We try everything for this game. We did not make Norwich changes for Leeds or the final, we needed to rest some. Exactly how we do it now."

Being unable to call on either Firmino or Jota would be a huge blow for Klopp, but a big boost for Chelsea. Jota has been in fine form this season for Liverpool - with the Portugal international finding the back of the net 17 times in all competitions.

Speaking at the weekend about the injuries to Firmino and Jota, Klopp seemed to be pretty optimistic when it came to the latter's chances of making a swift recovery.

He said: "We made a lot of changes [against Norwich] but two we had to make in Diogo and Bobby. Both were not available.

"We really do know 100 per cent [when they will be back]. With Diogo, it looks a little better than we first thought, with Bobby we didn't even know he had something until he felt it after the game.

"We all thought it was a little thing but it’s a muscle injury and we have to see how long it will take, I don’t know at the moment. But for sure not the next game. We have to see."
