Jurgen Klopp admits Fabinho 'proper knock' as Joel Matip injury scare confirmed at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has revealed Fabinho picked up a 'proper knock' against Arsenal and has also provided updates on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joel Matip.

The Liverpool boss has confirmed that Oxlade-Chamberlain resumed running yesterday as he stepped up his return to full fitness.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was forced off in the second half of Sunday’s 3-0 Premier League win against Brentford after picking up an ankle injury.

The injury ruled the midfielder out of Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final win over Arsenal, but he could return this weekend.

While the Liverpool boss has also revealed that his side have a number of 'knocks' following their 2-0 win at the Emirates, with Fabinho sustaining his following a tackle by Thomas Partey in the second-half.

“Ox, we hope and pray, he was running yesterday but we don’t know what that exactly means for today. It would be helpful if he could train before the game. I don’t know yet,” Klopp told the media.

“The rest as far as I know were only knocks. Yes, we got knocks, proper knocks. Wow, second yellow from Partey against Fabinho, that was a proper knock.

“I didn’t hear anything so that’s most of the time positive, but sometimes I get surprised after the press conference. But I don’t know anything else.”

While Klopp has also revealed that he opted to take Matip off at half-time at the Emirates as he 'was not completely 100% right' - but didn’t reveal if the defender was a doubt for the game with Palace.

He said: “No, Joel was not tactical. My God, how good was Joel.

“We thought something is not 100 per cent right and you can change five times, it’s not a situation where you ask, what [can we do?] – we had Ibou and Joe on the bench, so we just changed. Nothing else.”
