Illicit drug use jumps, booze dips in wastewater tests

Authorities say the drug methylamphetamine is now costing Australia $10.5 billion per year. (HANDOUT/NSW POLICE)

The amount of illicit drugs used in Australia has jumped over 12 months.

Wastewater testing showed a 19 per cent surge in cocaine consumption and a 17 per cent increase in the use of methylamphetamine in August 2023 when compared to the previous year.
