U.S.-born Mexico international Julián Araujo has completed a €10 million ($10.9m) transfer from Barcelona to Premier League side Bournemouth, as confirmed by both clubs. Araujo, 22, initially joined Barcelona from LA Galaxy in 2023 but did not feature in any competitive matches for the club. Instead, he spent the previous season on loan at Las Palmas.
Bournemouth's chief executive, Neill Blake, expressed satisfaction with securing Araujo's services, highlighting the player's potential and the club's eagerness to support his development. The club believes that Araujo possesses the necessary qualities to thrive and is looking forward to integrating him into the team at Vitality Stadium.
Following a preseason evaluation by new Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, Araujo was given playing time in a match against Manchester City in Orlando. Despite this opportunity, Araujo was unable to secure a spot in Flick's plans for the upcoming season, prompting his move to Bournemouth in search of regular playing time.
Araujo, who amassed over 100 appearances for MLS outfit LA Galaxy, initially joined Barcelona in January 2023. However, due to the timing of the transfer, he was ineligible to play for the first six months. Subsequently, Araujo went on loan to LaLiga side Las Palmas last season, where he featured predominantly as a right-back, making 28 appearances across various competitions.
Having represented the United States at youth level and earning a senior cap, Araujo made the decision to switch his international allegiance to Mexico in 2021. Since then, he has earned 13 caps for the Mexican national team, showcasing his commitment to his new footballing identity.
