Turkish student allowed to resume research after visa revoked by Trump administration

A federal judge has allowed a Tufts University student from Turkey to resume her academic work, following the revocation of her visa by the Trump administration, which led to six weeks of detention.

Rümeysa Öztürk, a PhD student researching children's relationship with social media, was among the initial individuals targeted as the Trump administration began focusing on foreign-born students and activists involved in pro-Palestinian advocacy. Her arrest in March, captured on video outside her Somerville residence, saw immigration enforcement officers take her away in an unmarked vehicle. This occurred after she co-authored an op-ed criticizing her university’s response to Israel and the conflict in Gaza.
