Judge Juan Merchan is currently providing the jury with important information regarding the non-prosecution agreement (NPA) in the ongoing trial. The NPA, dated September 20, 2018, is being reviewed by Pecker under the guidance of Steinglass.
Merchan is explaining to the jury the significance of the NPA between the US attorney's office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) and the conciliation agreement. He emphasizes that this information is intended to aid the jury in evaluating David Pecker's credibility and to offer context to the events in question.
However, Merchan clarifies that the jury should not consider this information when deliberating on Trump's culpability concerning the charges under examination in the trial.
One key aspect of the agreement, presented in court, states that SDNY has agreed not to pursue criminal charges against AMI for any offenses related to its involvement, from August 2015 to October 2016, in contributing and spending over $25,000 during the 2016 presidential campaign.
As part of the agreement, Pecker was granted immunity in exchange for providing testimony, while AMI entered into a non-prosecution agreement with the prosecutors.
