Jubilee Hills Society plot sales in Hyderabad: I-T lens on benami transactions

HYDERABAD: The income tax benami prohibition unit has begun identifying benami transactions in Jubilee Hills Cooperative Housing Society (JHCHS) plot sales.

Plots of several untraceable NRI’s have been sold through fraudulent allotment letters, it is learnt. So far, six such cases have been identified wherein each plot worth Rs 25 crore to Rs 50 crore has been transferred to benami persons between 2005 and 2017.

Jubilee Hills police registered a criminal case last year. JHCHS president Bollineni Ravindranath told TOI, “The I-T prohibition unit has issued notices to several persons with regard to these plot sales. They are looking deep into the issue.”

Sources said a few members of the housing committee identified the NRIs who were allotted the plots a few years ago. “In a few cases, since these plot owners were not traceable, the society issued the allotment letters faking as if they were given 20 years ago, but got them registered recently,” sources said.
