Journalist Rejects Claim That Trump Used Tucker Carlson To Trick Iranian Regime Into Thinking U.S. Wouldn't Attack

Axios journalist Marc Caputo rejected speculation online that the Trump administration used right-wing commentator Tucker Carlson to trick the Iranian regime into thinking that a U.S. attack was not imminent.

Chatter began after Carlson claimed that the CIA was spying on his texts and planned to frame him for a crime. He said on Saturday that the Department of Justice was preparing to report him for "acting as an agent of a foreign power" and "talking to people in Iran" before the war broke out.

Carlson rejected the notion, saying that "unlike a lot of people commenting on U.S. politics and global affairs, I have only one loyalty, and that's the United States, and have never acted against it."

"I've also never taken money from anybody. Don't need it, don't want it. And that's provable. And moreover, it's my job to talk to everybody all the time and try and figure out what's happening around the world. That's literally what I do for a living. And I'm not going to stop doing that. Nor should I, I don't think. I'm also an American. I can talk to anybody," he added.

After Carlson's video, speculation arose about the possibility that the Trump administration knew about his contact with the Iranian regime and used it to its advantage. However, Marc Caputo reported that there is no CIA investigation of Carlson and, in their most recent meeting, the two "politely disagreed, & Trump held to his position Iran was a threat & didn't mislead him."

However, Trump has been criticizing Carlson due to his opposition to the war, recently saying he has "lost his way."

Speaking to ABC News journalist Jonathan Karl earlier this month, Trump was asked about Carlson calling the attacks "absolutely disgusting and evil."

"I knew that a long time ago, and he's not MAGA. MAGA is saving our country. MAGA is making our country great again. MAGA is America first, and Tucker is none of those things. And Tucker is really not smart enough to understand that," Trump said.
