Jota set for Celtic transfer return as Benfica deal agreed but one final hurdle remains

Celtic are locked in talks with Jota in a bid to tie up a deal that keeps him at Parkhead.

The Hoops have already agreed to pay the £6.4 million transfer fee that was negotiated as part of the Portuguese winger’s loan from Benfica last season.

But Record Sport understands the club are still in discussions with the player over wages and length of contract, as they look to secure his long-term future.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is keen to get the deal done after Jota’s impressive performances in the Scottish Premiership and Europa League.

The 23-year-old racked up 10 goals and 10 assists domestically - and was a key player in their charge to a title and League Cup double.

Jota is eager to stay at Celtic and, although the fine details of his contract are still being ironed out, Postecoglou fully expects him to be his first permanent signing of the summer.

He’s also chasing the signature of Cameron Carter-Vickers from Spurs after he had a similarly successful loan spell in Glasgow.

Unlike Jota, personal terms have been thrashed out with the centre-back - but a fee with the Premier League club has still to be agreed.
