The SFA were forced to respond to the furore over the the dodgy camera angle used by VAR to rule out Jota’s strike at Motherwell. But the furious Hoops support reckon they should be demanding action is taken against the telly officials after it emerged the Fir Park cameraman who should have captured the controversial offside call was looking the wrong way.
Paul McArdle, Gourock, raged: “So the corrupt refs operating VAR said the VAR camera was trained on the managers in the dugout and not on the game? Why? Oh how convenient it missed the fact Jota goal was onside. Dougie-Gate Mark II. Someone's head needs to roll for this!” Robert Johnson, Blantyre , ranted: "Three years in the planning, development and testing of VAR and they still can’t get it right. Due to Avian Flu there is going to be shortage of ‘turkeys’ this year but there’s no shortage at Clydesdale House or Hampden!”
Harry Fitzpatrick, Hamilton, Ontario , called from Canada to say: “It’s about time Celtic officials started speaking up about these dodgy decisions. VAR is about three weeks old and almost every game there has been questionable calls going against Celtic. Down the years the old paranoia came into question but now VAR can’t even fix these dodgy calls.” But it’s no surprise for Chris Lowe, Yoker, that the Hoops are kicking up a stink over the new technology, saying: “Celtic seek clarification over Jota’s offside goal but not their winning goal which has more controversy about it. Fact is Celtic are terrified of VAR as it’s a level playing field now with their pet officials getting scrutinised. Twelve years on from a strike they caused, Clarification FC are back and putting pressure on referees from the top down. Hands up who never saw this coming.”
Jim Mackenzie, East Kilbride, added: “Surprise, surprise, Celtic fans don't like VAR. It means they can't get away with offside goals and handballs in the box, or winning cup finals with goals that shouldn't have stood.”
Ange Postecoglou was purring over the Well win that maintained his side’s seven-point lead. But St Mirren fan Ian Ramsden said: “According to Ange not many teams in Europe will have matched Celtic's 'flawless' recent domestic run and that Celtic have had 'perfect' league form in such a period of fixture congestion. I could have sworn I was present when we beat Celtic in Paisley only a couple of months ago. “No doubt I’m wrong. If I’m not, it’s a bit mean minded of the Celtic manager not give one of the diddy teams a little credit.”
Under-fire Rangers boss Gio van Bronckhorst is clinging onto his job after Wednesday’s win over Hearts. But Frank Cullen has already identified who should be next in line for the top job at Ibrox: “There’s an amazing ex-player who has been a No.2 to some of the very best managers in the Premiership. He also did a stellar job as caretaker boss on three occasions - yes, that’s right Big Duncan Ferguson is the right man at the right time. Go get him now whilst he’s available!”
Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “Rangers were lucky to escape with a win against Hearts and gave Gio a stay of execution. But his head is on the chopping block and I fear he’ll be gone soon. Any new manager must bring in Davie Martindale as a No.2 to stabilise the ship.”
