Newly-crowned men’s world player of the year Josh Van Der Flier says inspirational chats with previous winners Bryan Habana and Dan Carter have given him greater desire to prolong his fine form.

Flanker Van Der Flier capped a standout 12 months by claiming the ultimate individual prize at Sunday evening’s World Rugby awards.

The 29-year-old started all 11 of his country’s Tests in 2022, scoring four tries, as they clinched a historic tour success in New Zealand, defeated world champions South Africa and took top spot in the global rankings.
