"To be acknowledged by my teammates and opponents in this way is particularly humbling," said Josh van der Flier while accepting his award.
"A special word of thanks to my fiancé and family who continue to help guide me through."
Speaking to Dublin Live, he said of the season: "It certainly has been hard work. But it has been a really pleasing year so far. It would have been nice to get the full championship but it was nice to get the triple crown."
Among the winners on the night was Ireland and Leinster prop Andrew Porter, who was recognised for his work with the Irish Cancer Society.
Andrew told Dublin Live: "I'm in a very privileged position being a rugby player. So I thought the best thing I could do for people affected by cancer is give back even in a small way.
"When I was a child, sadly I lost my mother to cancer so I just want to try make life a bit better for those who are going through the same thing I did. Even if I know I'm helping one person who is affected by this, I can be happy in that sense."
He added: "The amount of work that the Irish Cancer Society does is just incredible. It helps so many people around Ireland and so many families affected by cancer. That's why I'm using my position try and give back to them."
