Josh Taylor win over Jack Catterall set for probe as boxing chiefs investigate controversial decision

Josh Taylor’s controversial win against Jack Catterall is set to be investigated by British boxing chiefs.

The Tartan Tornado held on to his four light welterweight world titles with his split decision points victory over the Englishman at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on Saturday.

But there was fury from Catterall’s camp at the scorecards – with the challenger claiming the judges stole his dreams.

Taylor got the nod with Paisley official Victor Loughlin scoring it 113-112 in his favour with Gillingham’s Ian John-Lewis having it 114-111.

Howard Foster scored it 113-112 for Catterall but it is understood the British Boxing Board of Control want to look in to the John-Lewis decision after a flurry of complaints.

All three judges have a wealth of experience but a statement released yesterday said: “The British Boxing Board of Control will be investigating the scoring of this contest and will advise accordingly.”

Taylor insisted he deserved to win the fight but several pundits and ex-pros hit out at the decision.

Spencer Oliver branded the result a disgrace, while broadcaster Sky Sports’ Johnny Nelson also condemned the controversial call.

Promoter Eddie Hearn also piled in and said: “They robbed Catterall. You can say, ‘He'll get another chance,’ but he'll never get another chance like that.

“Never get a chance to become undisputed again, a chance to earn the kind of money if the right decision would've been made.”
