Josh Rock beats Nathan Aspinall to advance to World Darts Championship last 16

Josh Rock vowed to do everything in his power to become world champion after he edged a thrilling third round contest against Nathan Aspinall at the Ally Pally.

Rock averaged 95.92 across a seven set thriller and despite commendable resistance from his opponent Aspinall, the Northern Irishman now marches on to the last 16 stage.

Rock's 141 checkout was the highlight of the opening set as he got the crowd on their feet and took a 1-0 lead on sets.

Aspinall broke Rock's throw twice in the second set to level the contest and it looked ominous in the third as he again broke him twice to win against the throw and take a 2-1 lead.

Rock came storming back in the fourth, however, and an early break got his tail up before he narrowly missed out on a nine-darter in the fourth leg before reasserting and nailing double-20 to clinch the set.

Rock held his throw in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead but Aspinall dominated in the sixth as he held his throw and set up a deciding set with a 3-0 win.

The decider did not disappoint as Rock showed nerves of steal to close out the contest. Back-to-back double-tops in the second leg brought about a break before a double eight in the final leg sealed victory for the bright youngster.

And the Antrim man was clearly pleased with his afternoon's work.

He said: “I was under a lot of pressure and I dealt with it well.

"I was just trying my best, it was a very tight game.

I got there, I was under a lot of pressure."

Rock will now advance to face Jonny Clayton in the last 16 after the Welshman saw off Brendan Dolan on a 4-1 scoreline.

And the defending World Youth Champion is feeling bullish about his title chances.

He said: "I am going to bust my bum to become world champion.

"I have kind of woke up, but now I am just happy.

"There is a lot more to come."
